GUIDE POST AT SW617374

The guide post located on the village green in Carnhell Green, Gwinear-Gwithian, dates from the early 20th century. It is made of painted cast iron and features a round post with four adjustable pointers on collars, all topped with a ball and spear-head finial. The shaft and pointers have letters and Arabic numerals in relief. The inscriptions on the guide post include "CORNWALL" on the shaft, with the north pointer indicating distances to Gwinear Road Station (3/4 mile) and Gwithian (3 miles), the west pointer showing distances to Gwinear (1½ miles) and Fraddam (2¾ miles), the second north pointer listing Camborne (2½ miles), and the south pointer indicating distances to Praze-an-Beeble (2¼ miles), Crowan (3½ miles), and Helston (8½ miles).
