Description
The Guide Post, located in St Buryan, is a Grade II listed structure dating from the 18th or early 19th century. It is made of painted dressed granite and features a monolithic design with an integral plinth and a pyramidal cap that has a moulded cornice. The post is triangular in shape and includes cable carving and an ogee upper stop on the chamfered front corner, which is situated between two inscribed sides.
The inscriptions are incised and presented as round-headed arches. On the left side, the inscription reads: "TO PENZANCE 5½ MILES TO LANDS END 4½ MILES," while the right side states: "TO ST JUST 3 MILES." There is a hand pointer directing towards St Just, along with scrolled decoration surrounding the word "Miles." This guide post was carved by Billy Foss of Sancreed in the early 19th century.
