Description

This guide post, dating from the early 19th century, is made of partly painted dressed granite. It features incised lettering that is painted black against a white background. The post has a triangular shape and consists of a tall, straight-sided shaft topped with a pyramidal head. Two sides of the post are inscribed with crudely carved Roman letters. On the left side, it reads "HELSTON" with a black-pointing hand indicating to the right, and "PENZANCE BREAGE" with a hand pointing to the left. The right side is inscribed with "SITHNEY" and a hand pointing right, and "PENROSE" with a hand pointing to the left. Additionally, there is an Ordnance Survey bench mark located at the lower right of the post.
