Description
Rissick Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse built in at least two phases. It features granite rubble construction, with some granite ashlar and granite dressings, and has grouted scantle slate roofs. The building has dressed granite stacks located over the gable ends and over a cross wall that was originally a gable end, positioned to the left of the center.
The original house, located on the right, has a three-room plan that has been modified to two rooms. It includes a parlour on the left, a cross passage to the right of the parlour, an unheated room to the right of the passage, and a hall at the far right. Behind the passage, at right angles, is a one-room service wing that also contains the stairs. To the left is a later 17th-century addition with a two-room plan and a stair projection at the rear.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an overall five-window range, featuring its original chamfered doorway and chamfered mullioned windows. The original house on the right has a slightly irregular three-window front, with the original doorway to the left of the middle, a two-light window to the right of the doorway, and a four-light window on both the left and right. The first floor has three three-light windows and a small blocked window opening at the far right, likely a former stair window. The later 17th-century addition on the left has a nearly symmetrical three-window front with original two-light windows and a later approximately central doorway. The rear of the farmhouse has several 17th-century window openings, some of which are blocked.
Inside, each room features an original granite fireplace. The two fireplaces in the original part have chamfered jambs and lintels, while the fireplace at the left-hand end has a chamfered lintel. The left-hand room has old first-floor beams that are boxed in, and there may be an old roof structure, though it has not been inspected. It is reported that there is a plaster barrel ceiling in the chamber of the rear wing.
