Description
This mid-19th century milestone is made of granite and has a rectangular shape with a rounded top. The dressed south face is carved at an angle to slope backwards, featuring incised lettering that reads: C. 3 / T. 6½.
Historically, this milestone is part of a series installed by the Callington Turnpike Trust along the route between Callington and Tavistock. It represents the expansion of the road network following the 1773 general Turnpike Act, which required mileage to be recorded. The milestone is designated as Grade II due to its clear representation of this historical development and its group value with other milestones along the same route.
