Description
Harrowbarrow Methodist Church, along with the attached Sunday school and surrounding walls, was built in 1842. The structure is made of stone rubble and has been lined out in stucco, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring ridge tiles. The church has a single auditorium layout, with the ritual area located at the rear and the entrance at the front. The Sunday school is attached to the right side of the church, and a wall encloses the area at the front.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical front. The central entrance has a round-arched doorway with a moulded surround, panelled double doors, and a fanlight above. There is a circular date plaque above the doorway, also with a moulded surround, displaying the date 1842 and the initials MC. On either side of the entrance, there are tall round-arched windows. The left side of the building has two tall round-arched sash windows, each with 24 panes and splayed glazing bars.
The front wall of the chapel is composed of three stepped ranges with chamfered coping, constructed from painted stone. The attached Sunday school is a single storey with its gable end facing right; its front features three 2-light casement windows. The right gable end includes a gabled porch with a plain door. There is a similar wall, approximately 10 metres long and about 1.5 metres high, attached to the porch and sweeping around to the right. The rear and interior of the building are not accessible.
