Description

Devoran House is a house built in the early to mid-19th century. The garden front features coursed dressed stone, while the rest of the building is made of killas rubble with granite dressings and brick arches. It has a dry slate hipped roof and brick stacks located over the cross wall and to the right of the entrance front. The house has a double-depth plan and consists of two storeys plus attic chambers. The entrance front is symmetrical with three windows, while the garden front has two windows and a mid-floor string on the left-hand return. The rear also has a two-window range, all featuring segmental brick arches over original 16-pane hornless sash windows.

The entrance front includes an original wooden distyle Tuscan porch with a moulded cornice that is broken forward over fluted columns, and it has basket arches at the front and returns. The panelled doorway has reveals, an overlight, and a six-panel door with flush bottom panels. The interior boasts a good staircase with a mahogany handrail, panelled shutters, a carved chimneypiece, and arched cupboards in the principal reception room. Devoran House is a complete and fine example of a house from this period.
