Description

A pair of houses with a front garden wall and railings, dating from the mid-19th century, located in St Johns Terrace, Devoran. The houses are constructed from local killas rubble with granite quoins, jambstones, and lintels. They have a hipped roof covered with original slurried scantle slate, featuring projecting eaves to the front and a brick chimney on the east side wall.

The houses are semi-detached and mirror each other, with paired entrances in the centre and a principal room to either side, backed by a service room. They are two storeys high, with a two-window front, a doorway grouped towards the centre, and a window above the entrance. C20 glazed porches have been added. Number 7 on the right retains original 12-pane hornless sash windows; number 6 has later sash windows. Cast iron ogee gutters are present. The interior has not been inspected.

A low granite coped rubble wall runs along the front, with two original entrances surmounted by a rectangular baluster and rail fence with matching gates. The pair of houses are part of a row of similar contemporary buildings that form an impressive group, despite some later alterations to other properties in the terrace.
