Description
1 and 2 Meadowside is a house that has been divided into two cottages, dating from the late 16th century to the mid 17th century, with the division likely occurring in the 19th century. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a scantle slate roof featuring gable ends. There are brick stacks at the left end and a truncated stone rubble stack projecting from the right end.
Originally, the house likely had a three-room and through-passage layout, with the entrance located to the right of center. The kitchen, heated by an end stack, is situated to the right, while the hall is on the left, heated by an axial stack on the higher cross wall. The inner room is located at the far left and also heated by an end stack. After the division, number 1 on the right includes the passage and kitchen, while number 2 on the left contains the hall and inner room. The rear door has been blocked.
The exterior is two stories high with an asymmetrical three-window front featuring early 19th-century sashes and casements. To the left, there is a two-light casement and a 20th-century door, while to the right, there is another 20th-century door and a two-light horizontally sliding sash. Above the right door, there is a circa 17th-century lintel that is chamfered with run-out stops. The first floor has three horizontally sliding sashes.
The interior is not accessible, but the ceiling beams appear to be intact and are chamfered.
