Description
Hustyn Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the early 17th century and was extended to the rear in the 18th century, possibly on an earlier site. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a cement washed scantle slate roof with gable ends that continue in a catslide over the rear outshot. The building has stone rubble end stacks with brick shafts, with the right-hand stack projecting.
The plan consists of two rooms and a cross or through passage, heated by end stacks. The larger room, likely the hall kitchen, is located at the lower end on the right and is heated by a large projecting stack. The farmhouse was extended in the 18th century, adding a service outshot that spans the rear elevation. A concrete block buttress was added to the front right-hand corner in the mid-20th century.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical three-window front featuring 19th-century hornless sashes. There is a 16-pane sash to the left and a 20-pane sash to the right of a 19th-century door, which has a slate lean-to hood. The first floor has three 16-pane sashes, and the 20th-century buttress is located on the front right-hand corner. The interior is not accessible.
The farmhouse is situated in an unaltered and picturesque farmyard. Historically, Hustyn with Trevorder belonged to the Carmynews of Fentongollan. A chapel dedicated to St Katherine was located at Hustyn in 1379, although no remains appear to survive.
