Description
Chyvounder and the adjoining cottage is a small house, possibly originally a farmhouse, with a later cottage attached. It dates from the 18th century and early 19th century. The building features painted shale rubble walls, slate sills, and wooden lintels, with brick arches over the ground floor openings of the cottage. It has a scantle slate roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends and over the party wall. The house consists of two rooms with a central stair, while the cottage has a one-room front and a service room under a later 19th-century lean-to at the rear.
The southwest front is two storeys high, showcasing a one-window front of the early 19th-century cottage on the left, which adjoins the three-window symmetrical front of the original house. Most windows are late 19th or early 20th century two-light casements, except for a four-pane horned sash window on the ground floor to the right. The house features a central wide doorway with a probably original six-panel door, where the top four panels have been later glazed. The cottage has a flat arch over the ground floor window and a projecting keystone above the shallow arch over the doorway on the right. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a group of four 17th and 18th-century farmhouses, with two of the others included in this listing.
