Description

GWENNAP HIGHER CUSGARNE SW 74 SE 5/143 Thatched Cottage - GV II House with adjoining cottage possibly originally 1 house. C18 or earlier. Painted stone rubble and cob mostly rendered to front (south). Wheat-reed thatched roofs with brick chimney over gable end left (west) and half-round-on-plan external chimney breast to right gable end. Originally possibly 3-room through passage plan but remodelled as (or may always have been) 2-room house with central passage and single-cell cottage to right (east). To rear middle is shallow but wide external projection under thatched outshut containing stairs. Now L-shaped overall with C20 1-room 2-storey thatch roofed extension to front of cottage. 2 storeys. House has nearly symmetrical south front with C20 12-pane 2-light casements. Nearly central door with C20 glazed door and thatched hood with small single-light casement inserted C20 over and to right. Cottage has C20 wing to original front (south) but has 1-window rear with doorway to right of windows. Stair turret to right of doorway has 2 small window openings with C20 casements. Interior not inspected.
