Description

Beechtree Cottage is a two-cottage dwelling, now a house, situated on Woolstone Church Lane. Dating to the 18th century, it features a later, early 19th-century extension to the right. The construction is of squared and coursed chalk, set upon a sarsen base, with chalk quoins. The roof is thatched, and a brick stack sits centrally. The building has a four-unit plan and a six-window front. The original three-window range on the left side has a timber lintel and a heavy frame around a plank door, above which is a fire insurance plaque dated 1794. There are two late 18th-century three-light leaded casement windows and one mid-19th-century three-light casement window on the first floor. A timber lintel is present over a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor, while the right side has 20th-century two- and three-light casement windows, with segmental brick arches above the ground-floor windows. One of these arches obscures a central doorway. The left gable includes late 18th-century three-light leaded casement windows. The roof is half-hipped. The interior has not been inspected.
