Description
Cob Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the late 17th century. The building features irregular timber framing that is partly rendered, with small scantling arranged into large squares, and includes brick infill. A timber-framed bay was added to the right around 1700. The cottage has a thatched roof and brick stacks, forming an L-plan structure. It is one and a half stories high with a four-window range. The front door, which is studded, dates from the 18th century, while the windows are 20th-century casements. There are ridge and gable-end stacks, and the rear wing has a two-window range with a gable-end stack and a half-hipped roof.
Inside, the rear room features a full range of chamfered and stopped beams, a stone flag floor, and an original open fireplace. The original fireplace is served by the same stack. A quarter-turn and straight-flight staircase, likely from the 19th century, is located in its original position at the junction of the two wings. There is also a 20th-century lean-to at the angle of the wings and an extension with a hipped roof to the right.
