Description
Trelow Cottage, located to the northeast of Trelow Farmhouse, is a disused farmhouse dating from the late 18th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century. The building is constructed from stone rubble and features slate hung with rag slates on the front. It has a cement washed scantle slate roof with gable ends that extend over a service outshut at the rear. The cottage has end stacks and additional stacks for the service outshut, all topped with brick shafts.
The plan of the cottage is double depth, with the entrance positioned slightly to the right of the center. The original layout likely included two principal rooms at the front, heated by the end stacks, with a service room probably located at the rear left, creating an overall 'L' shaped plan. The early 19th-century extension likely added to the rear right, maintaining the double depth layout.
The exterior is two storeys high, featuring a regular two-window front that is slate hung. There is a 19th-century porch slightly to the right of the center, which has a scantle slate hipped roof and a 19th-century door. To the left, there is a 24-pane horned sash window, and to the right, a 6-pane horned sash window. On the first floor, there is a 16-pane sash window to the left and a 20-pane sash window to the right.
Inside, the cottage retains its internal partitions and includes an early 19th-century dog-leg staircase located at the rear of the passage. There is also a likely reset 18th-century fireplace surround in the service room to the right.
