Description
Middle Trelowia Cottage, located 20 meters south of Middle Trelowia Farmhouse, is a farmhouse that has been converted into a cottage. It likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and was extended at the rear, probably in the 18th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble, with the front elevation rendered, and features a slate roof with gable ends. There is a parallel range at the rear on the left, which is partly slate-hung on the first floor, also with a slate roof and gable ends.
A large projecting stone rubble chimney stack with a brick shaft is located on the left-hand gable end of the front range, while a projecting chimney stack with a 20th-century rendered brick shaft is found on the lower right-hand gable end. There is also a truncated projecting stone rubble chimney stack at the rear wing on the left. The original layout was probably a two-room plan with a through or cross passage, which includes a 19th-century stair at the rear of the passage.
A one-room range was added to the rear on the left in the 18th century, creating an overall L-shaped plan. An outshut was added in the angle between the front range and the rear wing in the 19th century, and an outbuilding was constructed at the lower right-hand gable end in the late 18th or early 19th century. The cottage is two storeys tall and features an almost symmetrical two-window front. On the ground floor, there are two late 19th or 20th-century four-pane sash windows flanking a central panelled door, which is topped by a 20th-century gabled glazed porch on a rendered base with a slate roof. The first floor also has two similar sash windows.
The two-storey outbuilding at the lower right-hand gable end is made of stone rubble and has a slate roof, with a blocked opening on the ground floor and a slit opening above. The rear elevation includes the added rear wing, which is partly open on the ground floor, with the first floor supported on stone rubble piers.
