Description
This granary, located about 50 metres north of Nanswhyden Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond and features a slurried scantle slate hipped roof. The building has a rectangular plan and is supported on brick piers rather than traditional staddle stones, with two open bays on each side and three open bays at the front and rear.
The granary is two stories tall, with the ground floor open and supported by square brick piers that have slate imposts, which in turn support segmental arches. Some of the arches on the right side are blocked. The upper storey includes three 2-light window openings at the front and two 2-light window openings on each side. This granary is an unusual survival.
