Description
The Glebe is a vicarage, now a house, dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century, with additions from the later 19th century and subsequent alterations. It is constructed of stone rubble, with the front painted and slate-hung, while the rest is rendered. The front range has a hipped roof covered with slurried scantle slates and ridge tiles, with brick chimney shafts on the sides. The rear wing has a similar roof with a gable end and a truncated stack.
The house is planned with a double depth, featuring a 2-span roof over the front and rear rooms. There are principal rooms to the front right and left, each with a stack at the side for heating, with a central entrance. A rear service wing and staircase are positioned centrally. A one-room-plan service wing was added to the rear right, heated by a gable end stack.
The front of the house is symmetrical with three windows, spanning two storeys. The first floor has two 4-pane sash windows and a central plate-glass sash. The ground floor features a central half-glazed door with a pediment, and a 20th-century French window to the right and left. The left end is slate-hung. The rear range is in painted rubble with a 2-light casement window at cellar level, and other ground and first-floor windows. The right side of the rear range has 20th-century windows at ground and first floor. The rear wing has further 20th-century windows at ground and first floor, and a small single-storey lean-to. A cellar is located to the rear right, alongside a single-storey brick lean-to with a scantle slate roof; a tall 39-pane window illuminates the stairwell. The rear wing has a stack on its inner side, heating the first-floor room, and a ground-floor window. The gable end features an external stack with a curved oven at its base and a pointed arched door at a higher level.
Inside, at the rear of the entrance hall is a half-glazed Gothic door. The room to the front right features a Gothic chimneypiece. Not fully accessible.
