Description

Holly Cottage is a house and adjoining cottage, likely dating from the late 18th century, with extensions and minor alterations made in the early 19th century. It is now combined into a single dwelling. The house is stuccoed with a scantle slate roof and rendered stacks over the original gable ends, with a hipped return to the right. The plan is of a double-depth design; the original house has two rooms with a central passage leading to a staircase between two rear service rooms. To the right is a single-room cottage, originally accessed by a doorway in the right-hand wall. The two-storey south-east front has an overall appearance of four windows. The original front on the left has three windows, with a central doorway featuring a blind window above and a single window representing the former cottage front on the right. A panelled door has a latticed overlight. The windows are 20th-century 16-pane horns sash windows. Inside, there is an 18th-century dog-leg staircase, along with some two-panel doors and early 19th-century architraves incorporating roundels in the corner blocks.
