Description
There are three chest tombs located in the northeast corner of the churchyard of the Church of St Maddern. These tombs date from the early to mid-19th century and are made of dressed elvan and granite. All three are rectangular in shape. The southern chest tomb is from around the early 19th century and features an indecipherable inscription, with a dressed granite base and a moulded elvan lid. The western chest tomb is dedicated to Samuel Phillips, who died in 1858 at the age of 60, and his wife, who died in 1871 at the age of 71. The eastern chest tomb commemorates James Glasson, who died in 1837 at the age of 69.
