Description
The Armstrong Monument, located northeast of the Church of St Maddern in Madron, is a Grade II listed chest tomb featuring a memorial statue. The chest dates from the early 19th century, while the statue was created around 1929. It commemorates William Armstrong, the son of John and Mary Armstrong, who died in 1832 at the age of 29, as well as John Scobell Armstrong, who was born in Nancealverne in 1842 and died in 1929. The chest is made of dressed granite and has a shaped lid topped with a ball on a pedestal. Sitting on this ball is a bronze figure of a blindfolded female playing a lyre. The chest has a square plan.
