Description
Two adjoining houses, including a front courtyard wall, were built in the 18th century. The houses are constructed with granite ashlar facades, while the rest of the structure is of coursed rubble with granite dressings. They have steep, grouted scantle slate roofs and brick chimneys. The plan is of two houses, each with a two-room layout, built at right angles to each other, forming an L-shaped arrangement. Chy-an-Bara, on the left, has its kitchen situated behind Bosvean, which projects at a right angle at the front. Both houses feature a central cross passage entrance and a central stair. Bosvean includes a wider window opening and doorway at the front, presumably once used as a shop. The houses are two storeys high, with a two-window front to Chy-an-Bara and a three-window front to Bosvean. Chy-an-Bara has a 20th-century door, while Bosvean has a 19th-century four-panel door. Most windows are circa late 19th century, horned sashes, with two hornless sashes at the front end of Bosvean. The interior of Chy-an-Bara shows some 18th-century features, including a dog-leg stair with column-turned balusters and a robust moulded ceiling cornice in the cross passage.
