Description

The Pengelly chest tomb and headstone, located approximately 2 metres north of the Church of St Maddern, dates from the early 19th century. It features a granite ashlar chest with an incised slate inset on the lid and a dressed elvan headstone. The chest commemorates Richard Pengelly, who died in 1818 at the age of 80, and has a rectangular plan with a square plinth, ashlar sides, and a moulded lid. The headstone is dedicated to William Pengelly, who died in 1808, and has a shaped head with an incised inscription.
