Description
Gubbs chest tomb is located in the southwest angle of the Church of St Maddern. It dates from the 18th century and commemorates Martin Gubbs, who died in 1777 at the age of 56, as well as his nephew George Matthews, who died in 1795 at the age of 55, along with other members of the Matthews and Marrack family. The tomb is made of granite ashlar and features an incised slate insert on the lid. It has a rectangular plan, with a plinth, ashlar sides, and a moulded lid.
