Description

South Lodge to Polapit Tamar is a lodge built around the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with yellow brick dressings and features a rag slate roof. The lower sections of the building have deep overhanging eaves and gable ends, while the higher section has a rag slate pyramid roof with similarly deep overhanging eaves. The axial and end stacks are adorned with moulded brick shafts.

The lodge has an overall 'T' shape plan, consisting of three rooms. The left room is heated by an end stack, and the cross wing on the right includes a principal room at the front and a service room at the rear. The entrance is located at the angle between the left room and the cross wing.

The exterior features lower ranges on the left and rear right, both with gable ends and deep overhanging eaves. The front range of the cross wing on the right has a higher pyramidal roof with deep overhanging eaves. The front elevation is asymmetrical, with a rag slate roof covering a verandah to the right, which continues around the front and sides of the higher range, forming a porch for the entrance located at the angle with the lower range on the left. There is a 19th-century 12-pane sash window on the left and another in the first floor to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
