Description

Ladycross Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century and was extended in the 19th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble and features a rag slate roof with gable ends. The building has stone rubble end stacks with brick shafts, with the left-hand stack projecting. The layout consists of two rooms and a cross or through passage plan with end stacks.

In the mid-19th century, service wings were added to the rear, which include a kitchen on the rear right and a stair and possibly a dairy on the rear left. Additional lean-to service outshuts were added in the later 19th century.

The exterior is two storeys high with an almost symmetrical three-window front. It has a central 20th-century porch that contains a partly glazed 19th-century door, flanked by two 19th-century four-pane sash windows. On the first floor, there are three 19th or 20th-century two-light casements. A slate sundial, inscribed 'Vita fugit velut umbri TP 1774', is located to the right of the centre on the first floor.

Inside, the earlier part of the house features 18th-century two-panel doors and 19th-century doors, along with plastered ceilings and 20th-century grates in the fireplaces. The later rear part contains 19th-century four-panel doors and a 19th-century fireplace surround in the kitchen.
