Description
North Lodge to Polapit Tamar and railings to the front is a lodge built around the mid-19th century, with extensions made in the late 19th or 20th century. It is constructed from stone rubble, featuring granite and brick dressings, and has a slate roof with hipped and gable ends and deep overhanging eaves. The building has a central moulded brick axial stack and an end stack on the right.
The lodge is designed as two cottages with a double depth, 2-room plan, heated by the central axial stack. The left cottage has a shallow wing that projects from near the center of its left side, flanked by two small verandahs, with an entrance located in the rear wall of the wing. The right cottage has been extended to the right and features an entrance on the right side of the front elevation.
The exterior is two storeys high and almost symmetrical, with a single window front that includes two 19th-century 12-pane sashes with granite lintels on the ground floor and a gabled full dormer above in the center. The left side has a symmetrical front with a central 2-storey projection that contains two 12-pane sashes on the ground floor and a 2-light casement above, flanked by two open porches with brick and stone rubble corner piers. The right elevation features a gable end that may have been rebuilt in the 19th or 20th century.
In front of the lodge, there are 19th-century cast iron railings, which also extend to the opposite side of the road at the entrance to Polapit Tamar. The interior has not been inspected.
