Description
Nos. 1 and 3 Castle Street is a house with a smaller adjoining house, dating from the early 19th century. The larger house features stucco on masonry, while the smaller house has stucco on studwork. Both houses have an asbestos slate roof, with a rubble stack on the left, a brick end stack on the right, and a stack over the party wall towards the right. The property includes a cast-iron ogee gutter and has a shallow-depth plan. It is two storeys high with a five-window range. The windows are 20th-century horned sashes that replicate the originals, except for the blind windows above the doorcases, which have pilasters and a moulded entablature. Both houses have four-panel doors and a short flight of steps in front. The smaller house, No. 1, has moulded wooden architraves around its flush windows. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
