Description
This listing describes a group of farm buildings located 30 meters to the southwest and west of West Carne Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. The structures include a barn, a horse-engine house, and a row of shippons, all constructed from granite rubble with large dressed granite quoins and rag slate roofs.
The barn features gable ends, with a hipped end on the extension to the barn and the shippon, and a canted end on the horse-engine house. The barn is two stories tall and is built on a slope, with the ground rising to the left. There is a small extension on the right end of the barn, which includes the horse-engine house on the lower right side. The row of shippons is attached to the higher front left of the barn, projecting as a front wing.
The exterior includes shippon doors on the ground floor and a loft door above the barn. The lower range on the right side has a hipped end at the front, featuring a shippon door on the ground floor and a loft door on the lower right side, with a row of pigeon holes beneath the eaves. The horse-engine house, located on the lower right side, has a canted end facing the road. To the front left of the barn, there is a single-storey shippon with central double loading doors and additional shippon doors on either side.
Inside the horse-engine house, there is a central cast-iron shaft with a granite slab forming the base and a heavy cross beam at the top.
