Description
The barn, cartshed, and horse engine house at Tregenna Farm date from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from granite ashlar and dressed local stone, topped with a rag slate roof that features hipped ends. The building has a rectangular plan, with the barn on the right side containing shippons on the ground floor and a threshing floor above. An open-sided horse engine house is located at the rear of the barn, and a single-storey cartshed is attached on the left side.
The two-storey barn has a symmetrical façade, featuring a central entrance with plank doors on both the right and left sides at ground level. Above, there are central double doors on the first floor, flanked by window openings, and two rows of pigeon holes beneath the eaves. External stone rubble steps lead up to the loft on the right end. The single-storey open-fronted cartshed to the left is supported by granite piers and may have an integral stove on the right. The open-sided horse engine house at the rear has canted ends, and its openings, framed by granite posts, have been partly infilled with stone rubble. This site is noted for its particularly fine group of farm buildings.
