Description
This is a barn located on the west side of the yard at Abbot's Hendra Farm, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with granite dressings and features a slate roof with hipped ends. The barn has an overall rectangular plan, with a slate-hung linhay on the left and shippons on the ground floor in the center and right sections. The first floor includes a threshing floor, granary, and hayloft. There are remains of an open-sided horse engine house at the rear right.
The exterior showcases a two-storey front elevation and a single-storey rear elevation, as the ground rises towards the back. The slate-hung linhay on the left is supported by granite posts. On the ground floor, there are three shippon doors with double doors between them. The first floor features two double doors above the ground floor doors, which originally had slate hoods. There are also window and ventilation slit openings between these features. The granite posts of the open-sided horse engine house remain, although the roof has completely disappeared. This barn is a well-designed farm building situated on the west side of an unaltered farmyard.
