Description
This barn, dating to the early to mid-19th century, is located on the north side of the yard at Abbot’s Hendra Farm. It is constructed of stone rubble with a granite string course, granite quoins, and granite cills. The roof is slate with hipped ends. The barn’s rectangular plan incorporates shippons (animal shelters) and stables on the ground floor, with a loft above. The exterior is one storey in height, with a continuous string course tying in the lintels above the ground floor openings. Double doors are flanked by a single door opening to the left, and alternating door and window openings to the right. The barn is notable as a well-designed example of farm buildings situated within an unaltered farmyard.
