Description

Abbot's Hendra Farmhouse is a circa 1830s farmhouse constructed of local stone rubble with granite quoins. The upper portion of the building is slate hung, and it has a slate roof with gable ends. Ashlar granite and brick end stacks are present. The house follows a double-depth plan, with the main entrance located to the left of the centre. A larger room is situated on the front right, possibly a former drawing room, and a smaller room, potentially a parlour, is on the left, both originally heated by end stacks. A staircase is positioned in a central passage, with service rooms located to the rear; the kitchen is situated to the rear right. The front elevation is a regular three-window design, with 20th-century replacement windows within original openings. A circa 1830 slate porch with a six-panel door is located to the left of the centre, flanked by two three-light casement windows. Two three-light casement windows are located on the first floor, flanked by a two-light casement. The interior remains largely complete. The farmhouse faces onto an unaltered yard, with well-designed farm buildings situated to the west and north. An older, now disused farmhouse backs onto the yard to the south.
