Description

This building is a barn and adjoining horse-engine house, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of killas rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate roof, which has a gable end on the left and a hipped end on the right. The barn has a rectangular plan, with a square single-storey horse-engine house positioned at right angles behind the left side, and a later 19th-century single-storey lean-to behind the right side. Inside, the barn includes a threshing floor towards the left and has opposing first-floor loading and winnowing doorways. The loft is likely used as a granary and fodder store, situated above two wagon sheds, each with a stable on the left.

The exterior is two storeys high and has remained virtually unaltered since the 19th century. The regular northeast front features four ground floor doorways: two wide and two narrow. There is only one window, located on the first floor to the left, which is a two-light window with original shutters. Three loading doorways are positioned above three of the ground floor doorways, towards the left and on the right, each with original ledged split doors. The ground floor openings have 20th-century ledged doors, except for the left-hand wagon doorway, which retains a pair of old windows with hopper top lights. The interior has not been inspected.
