Description

Penrose Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse with extensions built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from local killas rubble with granite dressings, and has an asbestos slate hipped roof that slopes lower at the rear, with brick end stacks. The building's original plan was a double-depth layout, and it was later extended at the rear and with a lean-to on the right side. In the mid-19th century, the farmhouse was converted into three cottages, but it was subsequently restored to a single dwelling. The two-storey, symmetrical front has three windows. Original hornless sash windows with glazing bars are present. The central doorway has an original panelled door, and there are blocked doorways to either side, along with a window on the left, all with brick jambs. Original mid-19th-century windows are found on the end walls: a 12-pane sash on the left return, a 2-light casement and 16-pane sash on the lean-to return, and two similar casements on the ground floor of the rear elevation. The interior was not inspected.
