Description
Roscarrack Mill is a watermill with an integral miller's house, built around 1872. It features roughly coursed killas with granite dressings and has dry Delabole roofs that are hipped at the front part of the millhouse and half-hipped over the rear end of the mill. The chimneys are located over the rear wall of the house. The building has a T-shaped plan, with a two-room plan miller's house at the front that includes a central lobby and stair, and a one-room plan mill at right angles behind the middle, built into the bank on the left.
The mill houses a large overshot iron water wheel, which is the third largest in Cornwall, located in the wheel-pit behind the mill. This water wheel was reportedly used to drive machinery that pumped water up to Roscarrack House. The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-window southeast front for the miller's house, with a central doorway that has an original flush-panelled door. The windows are original 12-pane hornless sashes, also found at the left-hand end. The south mill front exhibits Gothic style features, including a granite ashlar plinth, a four-centred arched doorway on the right with chamfered jambs and head on both sides, and a three-light chamfered mullioned window on the left and above. The original iron wheel on the left has iron spokes and rim segments, although the wooden buckets have been removed. The interior has not been inspected, and there is no machinery currently in the mill.
