Description
The Old Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with dressed granite quoins and features a rag slate roof with gable ends. There is a parallel range at the rear, also with a rag slate roof and gable ends. The building has stone rubble end stacks on the right (east) side of both ranges.
The farmhouse has an unusual double depth plan, with a two-room layout in the front range. The right-hand room on the east side is heated by an end stack, and it is likely that there is a similar two-room plan in the parallel range at the rear. The entrance is located in the right-hand gable end of the rear range, next to the fireplace. The interior was not accessible during the survey in 1986, so it is unclear if this unusual plan is original.
The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front. On the ground floor, there are two late 19th-century four-pane sash windows, while the first floor features two early to mid-19th-century 16-pane hornless sash windows. There is a 20th-century brick porch on the rear right-hand gable end, and a 20th-century window in the rear elevation. The interior remains inaccessible.
