Description

Wenford Bridge House and The Brewhouse is a former public house that includes a malt loft and skittle alley, now converted into two attached private houses. The building dates from the mid-19th century and was converted in 1939 by Michael Cardew. It is constructed of stone rubble with granite quoins. Wenford Bridge House, located on the left, features a rag slate roof with gable ends and brick end stacks. The Brewhouse, which was originally the malt loft to the right, has a brick stack on its right-hand gable end.

The single-storey range to the right, which was originally the skittle alley, has a slate roof with gable ends and is now part of The Brewhouse. Wenford Bridge House has a double depth plan with a central entrance. The bar was originally in the left-hand room, heated by an end stack, with a smaller bar located to the rear. The living room is on the right, and the kitchen is at the rear right, both heated by an end stack. There is a staircase at the rear of the passage and an offset rear door.

The Brewhouse consists of a two-storey range to the right with a one-room plan that forms an obtuse angle with the front elevation of Wenford Bridge House. The ground floor is heated by an end stack and includes a cloam oven on the front right and what was originally a boiler on the rear right. The former malt loft on the first floor is also heated by an end stack and features a loading door on the front elevation. A further single-storey range to the right, which is rectangular in plan and was originally the skittle alley with a raked floor, is now used as bedrooms in The Brewhouse.
