Description

This building complex consists of a bank barn, shippon, engine house, and cart shed, located about 40 metres southwest of Brockle Farmhouse. The structures date from the early 18th century for the shippon, the 18th century for the bank barn, and the 19th century for the engine house and cart shed. They are constructed from slate rubble with granite dressings, and the shippon features some cob construction. The roofs are made of dry rag slate and include hipped and gable-ended designs.

The layout is L-shaped, with the bank barn being two storeys high. The ground floor has six shippon doorways with slate round arches and granite keystones, three of which are blocked to create windows. There are also two large loading doorways for the barn on the first floor and a small window on the left side. The shippon is attached at a right angle and has a slate rubble ground floor built on exposed bedrock, with a cob first floor. It features small windows and a blocked doorway on the ground floor, along with a loft doorway above.

At the rear of the shippon is a lean-to outshut, and there is a 19th-century block in the rear angle that includes pigeon holes in the gable end. The engine house, located behind the bank barn, is polygonal with a conical hipped slate roof and a pigeon. There is a rear doorway of the barn to the right of the engine house. The cart shed is on the left end of the barn and is open-fronted, featuring roughly hewn monolithic granite parts. The left bay is enclosed with double doors, but one of the posts supporting the three open bays is missing. The interior is not complete, and it is noted that the house engine is said to have been removed.
