Description

Strand Cottage is a cottage, likely dating from the late 17th or 18th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. The walls are primarily cob, with the front wall rebuilt using slate rubble. It has a dry slate roof, gabled at the right-hand end and hipped at the left, featuring crested ridge tiles. A large chimney stack is located at the right-hand gable end, with a rendered shaft that has been heightened in brick. The original plan consisted of two rooms, with a central entrance. A single-storey outshut was added to the rear, probably in the 19th century, and a 20th-century corrugated iron outbuilding sits at the right-hand (east) end.

The south front has an almost symmetrical two-window arrangement, featuring 20th-century two-light casement windows with glazing bars, timber lintels, and slate sills. The ground floor window on the right-hand side has small panes and a granite lintel. A central doorway has an 18th-century two-panel door and a 20th-century brick porch. The rear features the aforementioned slate-roofed outshut.

The interior was not inspected, but plank partitioning, light scantling joists, and a large fireplace were observed. A newel staircase is likely situated beside the large chimney stack at the east end.
