Description
The stables and gighouse, located immediately northwest of the Methodist Chapel in South Petherwin, date from around 1876, which is the same year as the chapel. The building is constructed of coursed slate rubble and features a hipped slate roof with an axial stack that has a short red brick shaft. It has a small rectangular plan and is a single storey in height.
On the right side, there is a plank door flanked by small unglazed windows, all of which are topped with granite lintels. To the left, there is an open-fronted gighouse that has a later corrugated-iron canopy supported by the yard wall. Adjacent to the yard wall, there is a doorway and a window that lead into the graveyard. Opposite the stables, on the east side of the yard, there is a small outbuilding that is used as lavatories. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
