Description
Hopecote is a village house, probably from the 18th century, with a front that was remodeled in the early to mid-19th century. The exterior is finished in stucco with quoin strips and sits on a rubble base. It features a steep asbestos slate roof with a modillion eaves cornice and late 19th-century crested clay ridge tiles. There are brick end stacks over the party walls. The building has an L-shaped plan, which includes a deep rear wing that is positioned at right angles to the main structure. It is two stories tall and has a slightly asymmetrical three-window front. The first floor features early to mid-19th-century twelve-pane hornless sash windows, which are fronted by a latticed wooden balcony with a dentilled cornice. On the ground floor, large canted bays with hornless sash windows and glazing bars flank a pilastered doorway that contains the original door, which has six fielded panels and a diamond-patterned overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
