Description
The toll house, now a private house, dates from the early 19th century. It features snecked local stone on the front walls and stone rubble on the side walls, with the right-hand side elevation rendered and painted. The building has a slate roof with a canted end at the front and a central brick chimney stack. The plan is double depth with a canted front, including a central entrance through an original porch, two principal rooms at the front, and service rooms at the rear. There is a 20th-century outshut extension at the back.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical two-window front elevation facing the road. The central Gothic-style porch, made of snecked stone, has a steeply pitched slate roof and a gable end with parapet coping. There is a depressed four-centred blind arch in the centre with a blind chamfered four-centred arch above it. The entrance is located in the left-hand side wall and features a 19th-century plank inner door. The canted front wall of the main range has 19th-century two-light casement windows flanking the porch, and there are additional 19th-century two-light casements in the side walls, along with a 20th-century single-storey lean-to extension at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
