Description

Hele Mill Cottages is a pair of cottages that were originally a mill and cottage, dating from the early 19th century. The structure is built of rubble, with the front and gable of No 2 rendered. It has a slate roof, although No 2 features corrugated asbestos cement on its outshut.

No 1, located on the right, is three storeys high and has a long single-storey wing that projects forward. On the first floor, there is one two-light glazing-bar casement, and on the second floor, there are two smaller two-light casements situated at the eaves. The outer gable has three casements and a door, while the back features several glazing-bar casements. The low wing includes 20th-century bow windows, and there is a brick stack at the centre of the back eaves. In the internal angle, there is a glazed conservatory-porch over a glazed door.

No 2 is the original cottage for the mill and is two storeys tall, featuring three 16-pane sash windows that are not quite symmetrically placed above a central 20th-century stable door. To the left, there is a one-storey lean-to with a slate roof. At the back, there is an added two-storey outshut with four two-light casements, two of which have glazing bars, along with a small square light at the eaves and a glazed door. The outer gable has a square brick stack. The building is situated close to the former line of the Bude Canal. The interiors have not been inspected.
