Description
Marhamchurch War Memorial is a First World War memorial that includes later additions for the Second World War. It is made of granite and is situated in the car park at the junction of Helebridge Road and Underlane, to the east of the Grade I-listed Parish Church of St Marwenne.
The memorial features a rough-hewn granite wheel-headed cross mounted on a tapering shaft. This cross shaft rises from a plinth that sits on a square base. The east and west faces of the plinth are recessed and have a smooth finish.
On the east face of the cross shaft, the inscription reads "FOR / KING / AND / COUNTRY / 1914-1918," with a list of the 12 fallen from that conflict on the face of the plinth below. The west face of the cross shaft bears the inscription "FOR / KING / AND / COUNTRY / 1939-1945," and the face of the plinth below lists the nine fallen from that conflict.
The memorial is set on a square, flat granite area that is enclosed by a post and chain fence, located within the larger tarmacked car park area.
