Description
Skeyton War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, with additions for the Second World War. It is made of grey granite and is located in the churchyard of the Church of All Saints on Church Road in Skeyton, Norfolk. The memorial is prominently placed at the south edge of the churchyard, aligned with the church tower and facing the road. It features a rough-hewn wheel-head cross with a Sword of Sacrifice in relief on the front, set on a plinth that has inscriptions for the First World War. The memorial stands on a single-stepped base, where the inscriptions for the Second World War were added. Beneath the memorial, there is a deep concrete foundation block that secures it into the bank of the churchyard. The inscriptions are in leaded lettering and read: 1920/ ERECTED BY THE PARISH/ IN MEMORY OF/ (NAMES)/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918// 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES).
