Description
The Church of St Andrew is a parish church located in Buxton with Lammas. Some fabric of the church dates back to the 15th century, but it was extensively rebuilt in the late 19th century. The church is constructed of flint with limestone dressings and features plain-tiled roofs with crested ridges. It includes a west tower, nave, chancel, and a south porch. The chancel has a noticeable "weep" to the north. The slender 15th-century west tower is supported by staged angle buttresses below the bell stage, which has bell openings with cusped 'Y' tracery and an embattled parapet. The west window of the tower has been renewed, likely during the 19th-century restoration. The south porch was rebuilt around 1880. The nave facade has three Perpendicular windows, with bays divided by set-off buttresses featuring flushwork panels. Although the chancel was entirely rebuilt in the late 19th century, it incorporates some older materials. The tower and chancel arches are from the early 15th century, and the church has 19th-century scissor-braced roofs. Inside, there is a 16th-century octagonal font with alternating panels of shields and roses, a fragment of old heraldic glass in the southeast chancel window, and a piscina with a foiled head. Additionally, there is a scratch dial on the southeast buttress of the nave and a memorial tablet from 1741 dedicated to the sons of Henry and Alice Utting on the south wall of the chancel.
