Description

The Methodist Church, dated 1858 in the pediment, is located on Penberthy Road in Portreath. It is constructed of killas rubble that is lightly coated with scored render, featuring granite quoins and dressings, and has a slate roof. The church has a rectangular plan oriented on a north-south axis, consisting of two by three bays, with a gable facing the road. Small porches are added as wings at the rear ends of each side.

This single-storey building is designed in a simple classical style. The two-bay facade includes two tall round-headed windows with quoined surrounds and raised keystones, although the glazing has been altered to create two lights with V-glazing bars in the heads. The pediment above has a moulded surround on kneelers and contains a moulded roundel displaying the raised date "1858". The three-bay side walls feature tall round-headed sashed windows with radiating glazing bars and brick arched heads, while the small porches have front walls that extend upward to form small pediments. Inside, there is a rostrum at the front end facing the road, and there is no gallery. The church forms a group with Trecarrel to the right.
