Description
Glenfeadon House is a mid-19th century house that has been converted into a hotel. It was built for the Basset family of Tehidy and underwent alterations in the late 19th century. The structure is made of coursed killas rubble with granite dressings and ashlar additions, topped with a slate roof. It features a double-depth plan with set-back side wings, standing two storeys over an exposed basement. The façade is symmetrical with three bays and l-bay side wings, showcasing rusticated quoins and a basement with channelled rustication.
A loggia has been added to the front of the raised ground floor, supported by square piers that are similarly rusticated. In the centre, a flight of double-returned steps, protected by cast-iron ornamental balustrades, leads to the entrance within the loggia. This entrance features an arcade of seven moulded round-headed arches on Tuscan columns, topped by a balustraded parapet. The central enclosed porch has a doorway framed by pilasters, a fanlight with radiating glazing bars, a keystone, and a floating cornice on double consoles. Above the porch is a rectangular bay window styled similarly, with a 12-pane sash in the front and round-headed windows on the sides, also featuring a balustraded parapet.
Flanking the porch are large 12-pane sashed windows with rusticated surrounds and stepped voussoirs with raised keystones. The other windows on the building are similar, but with plain lintels. The hipped roof has bracketed eaves and side-wall chimneys, with the right-side chimney cut down. The left end of the left wing includes a canted bay window with a balustrade.
