Description
Milly's Tea Rooms is a building that was originally a house, which has been extended to form two cottages and is now a restaurant with domestic accommodation above. It dates from the early 18th century and was extended and remodeled in the mid-19th century. The exterior features painted stone rubble and slate-hanging on the left-hand gable end. The building has a slate roof with gable ends and a gabled end on the rear wing. There is a stone rubble chimney stack on the lower right-hand gable end, along with a brick shaft, and another brick chimney stack in the gable end of the rear wing, which was originally a rear lateral stack that is now blocked with the shaft removed.
The plan has been altered, but a through passage is retained at the lower end. A rear wing has been added, resulting in a T-shaped plan. The building is three storeys high with a regular two-window front. The ground floor features a 20th-century window beneath a concrete lintel in a door opening on the right. Near the centre, there is a 20th-century window and door in a wide opening beneath a timber lintel with a central brick pier between. To the right, there is a 20th-century window beneath a segmental brick arch. The first and second floors each have two 6-pane late 19th-century sash windows. There is a lean-to on the right-hand lower gable end and at the rear in the angle of the rear wing and the higher end of the main range.
Inside, the staircases have been replaced, and the ceiling beams date from the late 18th century. The timber lintel to the rear lateral stack has also been replaced, while the upper floors have not been inspected.
